Hardwood Flooring, Laminate Flooring Hardwood flooring is a wood product made of solid wood and used as flooring. Laminate flooring is a multi-layer synthetic flooring product. It simulates wood or stone, with a photographic applique layer under a clear protective layer. The inner core layer is commonly made from melamine resin and fiber board materials. There is sometimes a glue backing for easy installation. Laminate flooring is durable and attractive, and is low-priced compared to natural floor products.Composition of Hardwood flooring, Laminate flooring Laminate flooring is generally composed of four layers, which are wear layer, decorative layer, balance(moistureproof) layer and high density substrate layer. These are bonded together under extreme heat and pressure. The high density substrate surface is covered by a layer or multi-layer impregnated thermosetting amino resin. The bottom layer of laminate flooring is moistureproof layer, and the top layer is wear layer. The decorative layer is placed above the substrate. Categories of Hardwood flooring, Laminate flooring 1. By thickness, there are thin laminate flooring(about 8mm) and thick laminate flooring(about 12mm) With regards to environmental protection, thin laminate flooring is better than thick laminate flooring, because thin laminate flooring requires less glue. Besides, the density of thin laminate flooring is higher than thick laminate flooring. 2. According to specifications, there are standard laminate flooring, wide plank laminate flooring and narrow plank laminate flooring. Standard laminate flooring: width: 191-195mm, length: 1200-1300mm. Wide plank laminate flooring: length: about 1200mm, width: about 295mm. Narrow plank laminate flooring: length: 900-1000mm, width: about 100mm. 3. By surface coating, there are aluminum oxide laminate flooring, melamine laminate flooring, and piano surface laminate flooring. Standard laminate flooring surface is usually made from aluminum oxide (46g, 38g, 33g etc.) Aluminum oxide sometimes is directly sprayed on decorative paper. Laminate flooring coated with melamine coating is commonly used as wallboard and desktop board etc. Piano surface laminate flooring uses bright paint which is originally used in hardwood flooring, offering a glossy piano like surface.4. As per characteristics of flooring, there are many types of laminate flooring, including crystal surface type, embossed surface type, locking type, soundproof type and waterproof type etc. Crystal surface laminate flooring is flat and smooth, easy to clean Embossed surface laminate flooring is a type of flooring with grainy pattern For locking laminate flooring, the boards are locked together with invisible joins, which can control the vertical displacement and horizontal displacement of the flooring. Soundproof laminate flooring, as its name suggests, is sound resistant. Waterproof laminate flooring is a type of flooring whose grooves and tongues are coated with water-resistant resin or other waterproof materials. Hence, this laminate flooring can keep moisture out and formaldehyde in it, which makes the flooring environmentally friendly and prolongs its service life. Characteristics of Hardwood flooring, Laminate flooring 1. Laminate flooring and hardwood flooring at various prices are available to suit your different budget. 2. Wide applicable scope 3. Superior stain resistance, acid and alkali resistance, maintenance free 4. High elasticity, good skid resistance 5. Wear resistance, antibacterial, prevent the flooring from being damaged by worms and mould 6. Good dimensional stability, without being affected by temperature or humidity 7. Sound insulation, noise reduction 8. A wide range of colors and styles to satisfy your specific requirement 9. Fireproof performance: B1 grade 10. Light weight, reduce building’s bearing load Advantages of Hardwood flooring, Laminate flooring 1. Wear resistance: The surface layer of laminate floor is wear layer, which is mainly made by aluminum oxide. Generally, wear resistance of laminate floor is determined by the density of aluminum oxide. The denser the aluminum oxide is, the higher wear resisting capacity the floor has. 2. Various styles and designs: The decorative layer of laminate flooring can simulate various wood grains, stone or artificial grains, so you can choose any pattern you want. 3. Simple maintenance: As the wear layer of laminate flooring is resistant to wear, compression, impact and is fireproof and anti-chemical pollution, so it can be easily cleaned by a dry rag, mop or vacuum cleaner. You can just use a cloth (with detergent) to clean oil spot from your floor. 4. Easy installation: To install laminate flooring, you just need to glue tongues and grooves together for accurate interlocking. After laying, uniform color and good visual effects can be obtained. Meanwhile, laminate floor can be directly installed on the ground or over other floor boards. In addition, laminate flooring can be laid from any part of the room, easy and quick. 5. Cost-effective: The wear layer, decorative layer and balance layer are manually printed, and the substrate is made from fast-growing trees. So the cost of laminate floor is significantly lowered than solid wood floor. Besides, mass production is also available. How to choose Hardwood flooring, Laminate flooring? 1. Wear resistance revolution Laminate flooring’s wear resistance depends on the aluminium oxide content of the surface layer. Certain aluminium oxide content results in certain wear resistance revolution. Generally, the wear resistance revolution of house floor should be more than 6000 rpm, while the floor used in public places should be more than 9000 rpm. 2. Formaldehyde release Laminate floor contains a certain amount of formaldehyde. The formaldehyde content should meet national standard (≤1.5mg/L), otherwise, the floor would be harmful. So you’d better to use inspection-free products or products certified by national environmental labeling system. 3. Substrate density The density of laminate flooring substrate (high density fiberboard) should be 0.82-0.96 g/cm3.4. Water resistance Water resistance can be reflected by thickness expansion rate of water absorbing. The higher the rate, the worse the water resistance. This means dimensional changes of laminate flooring can easily occur in humid environment. 5. Machining accuracy After laying 6-12 pieces of laminate flooring, you should check the machining accuracy by hand or by eye. The smoothness, tongue and groove, the floor height difference and gap size all should be carefully examined. Hardwood Flooring, Laminate Flooring Maintenance 1. Keep you room well ventilated after laying your flooring 2. Don’t move heavy appliances or furniture by dragging, pulling or pushing, thus avoiding scratching the surface of wear-resistant layer. 3. Don’t use edge tools to scrape floor surface 4. Don’t allow water to stand on your floor. If there is any, please remove the water with a dry mop immediately. 5. Keep the floor clean and dry. Use a wet mop(but not dripping) to wipe up dirt. 6. Prevent floor deformation caused by baking utensils7. Place a door mat to reduce sand wear. 8. Clean your floor by using specialized floor cleaning agents. Avoid using metal tools, nylon friction pads or bleaching powder.
